5-stars and we loved staying at John's place. He was an awesome host and we would stay again. Here's what we recommend based on our stay. If you're looking for a hospital-scrubbed clean, Hilton type cookie-cutter beach house or something like that, don't stay here. John's house is a home, his home that he shares with guests in the summertime. Think of it like your cool uncle took off in an RV for a few weeks and let you come over and stay at his house. His house that's in an amazing location (within a few miles of the main section of Duck), about a 10-minute walk from the beach if you're dragging toddlers and all your stuff, with views all around that are awesome, plenty of deck space, a porch swing, a crow's nest type perch on top the house, a Weber Grill, a pool kids can go crazy in, a hot tub adults can relax in, an outdoor shower, fully-stocked with dishes, appliances, silverware, spices, etc. The fridge had some food in it left from previous guests (and we left some too because it hurt to just toss it), but there will be shelf space for food you bring/buy or you can make that space. There are all the dishes you need though, coffee mugs, glasses, sliverware, pots, pans, and the dishwasher is awesome. I'm disappointed reading the huffy reviews of his place. Seems like some folks that always see the glass as half empty. We fit 3 military families in John's place - 6 adults, 7 kids, 1 dog, and we all had a blast. The first floor is really just the entry. On the second floor, the king room had an adjoining bathroom, the 4-bed bunkbeds were across the hall from a bathroom with a tub, a Queen and Full room were a few steps away from that same bathroom, and the other Queen room on the top floor (of 3 floors) had it's own bathroom with a shower. If you can't get up and down stairs, don't come here. Bring your own linens (sheets, towels, pillows and blankets although there are pillows and comforters in each room), or try to find a service you can rent them from. Recommend you bring or buy your own toilet paper spares, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, trash bags, cleaning wipes, and paper towels. There are spiders across the whole island, and they like making webs everywhere they can every day. It's everywhere, you even hear the business owners across town talking about them. They're just spiders. Be one with nature. Close the doors when you come in and out of the house or don't get mad when the bugs try to fly in. Good lesson on night one. Bring your bikes, there are great paths you can ride that aren't very steep in any direction, and the town is a charming and short ride from the house. All in all, John's house was awesome. He was a super responsive host, cared about our stay and that we were comfortable, and we had an incredible and amazing experience.

Heavenly Haven was the 1st Air BNB that I have ever booked. The booking experience was very educational for me, in a good way. Heavenly Haven was a great place for my LARGE family, with age ranges from 8 months to 83 years. The elevator was a big help! As were the kitchens and all the bathrooms. The outdoor amenities- pool, hot tub, volleyball court provided a lot of outdoor entertainment for all of the generations. The indoor pool table also provided a lot of entertainment, a bunch of us happen to be billiard experts. We brought our own sticks and other accessories and played many games while chatting up a storm! Also, Leslie & her staff were VERY helpful and responsive with all the questions I had. Our family enjoyed Melissa’s place it was spacious enough for everyone (13) including 2 kids ages 5. Everyone had a bed and the view was amazing. Its close to really anything and there is plenty of things to do in the area. Melissas place was clean and well kept with everything that we needed during our stay.

My mom, two brothers, husband and two kids (4 and 2 years old) stayed at Donna and Don’s place and loved it! The place is beautiful, practical (love the outdoor shower) and with nice extra amenities (the hot tub is great!), and of course the 2 min walk to the beach is unbeatable. Would definitely stay there again!

We had a wonderful stay at this guesthouse! The location couldn't be more perfect for a relaxing visit to the beach. Our group of 16 ranged in age from 7 to 74 and everyone was able to find something to keep them busy. The beach was gorgeous and a very short walk away. When we wanted variety, the nature preserve was right there to the west, offering fabulous sunset views. The house also had a swimming pool and a hot tub, both of which got extensive use while we were there! We worried that we would be in each other's way, but there was so much to do that that was never a problem. Plenty of space, plenty of bathrooms, plenty of decks to spread out on. The kitchen was more than sufficient to cook for a large group. Overall, we had a great time and are already considering a repeat for next year!

Eli responded to our questions very fast. The house is spacious than the expected. A very convenient place for the beach and other places. Not too close not very far.

Stayed for a week with a mix of family & friends. Everyone loved the house! It was just as pictures & write up described. Spacious enough for our group of 13 without feeling crowded at all. Cindy was very responsive & friendly, which I appreciated. Having a second fridge was a bonus. We also loved the pool, especially the kids. Water was a perfect temperature. Not a far walk to beach either- just not ideal for beach buggies/wagons with all the stairs. Would definitely stay here again.

This house has everything and the location is just amazing. Walk everywhere. It's also thoughtfully laid out so many family members can have their own space as well as a huge common area. All the kitchen goodies are there. The owner is so thoughtful- he checks in and really wants you to have the best time possible. The house is full of the stories of his life- a life of travel and family and it's beautifully decorated. Every morning we just walked out the door a few hundred feet to the beautiful beach. The kids could go out to walk the dog in a lovely neighborhood and the amenities of the resort area are awesome. It's really a great spot to get away. Our family went during a very rainy period but we still managed to see dolphins, trek to the wild horses, find a great nature trail or two, and play a little basketball on the community courts. Everyone we ran into was really nice and I would bet it's because its just just a beautiful area. They're lucky. I would love to come back again.

Very cute and comfortable home. Just what we were looking for in Murfreesboro. Margaret was especially kind in allowing us to stay a bit later than check out time due to an illness with one of our children. She couldn’t have been more accommodating. Communication with Margaret is very easy and she gets back in a flash. I would highly recommend renting from Margaret.

My family and I really loved the house. It had plenty of space for us, the kitchen was well equipped, and it was easy to get to and from the beach.

Eric’s place was just as described. Very roomy and the pool was larger than most! Short walk to the beach and short drive to see the wild horses. Eric was very responsive and helpful! We had a great relaxing week!

We enjoyed our stay in Corolla so much. The house had plenty of space for everyone, the pool was cool and refreshing, the beach was just a short walk away and the horses came by everyday, sometimes walking within arms reach. You definitely need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to make the trip up the beach. When the tide is high the water can come all the way up to the dunes in places. Remember to bring a tire gauge! If you want to get away from it all and experience what it's like to live on the edge of the world this house is the perfect place!

We enjoyed our vacation at this home very much. the description was accurate and the house very clean and well organized. We had to reach out to the host a few times and they were extremely responsive in a timely manner. The location of this house is awesome, grocery store and restaurants are just a short drive or walk. We enjoyed the 2nd story hot tub and the beach access was very convenient. The large recreational room on the 1st floor kept the kids entertained!! Overall, we had a fabulous week at this home and it was perfect for our large family.

Great place to stay we were down an evening early for a duck hunt - would also be a nice spot for a getaway or fishing trip!

Loved staying at Captains Quarters! We’ve stayed previously at one of the other condos in the building and this one was just as nice! Perfect for a small family. The location is so convenient too.

This house was perfect for what we wanted. Lots of space! A house out of the way, but near restaurants and close to the beach. Excellent walking path to the beach!!! Overall, this was very well furnished house! The seating options/variety was unbeatable! So many comfy spots all over.

This was our first family vacation renting a large home (typically we cruise). We had such a great time, we are already looking for homes next year. All the bedrooms/beds were full but the house never seemed crowded. Plenty of space for dining. The 2nd floor “den” was perfect if you wanted to start a puzzle or play a game. Movie room was perfect for the younger kids to get away from the adults-it was like their own little hangout room. Close to the beach access. If we ever rent again in the Outer Banks we will rent this home again.

The place was exactly what we were looking for. We were in town for the Jazz Fest which was across the street, so it was perfect. The beach was a little bit of a walk, but wasn't the primary reason for our visit so it was fine. The place is really cute and comfortable.

We had a wonderful time at this beach house! The kids stayed in the bunk room and loved gathering in the living room/game room right outside of their bedroom. It was like they had their own apt. :) The house was super clean, the location is wonderful, the living room on the top floor was beautiful! Ocean view (in the distance), huge windows, great decks, beautiful master bed/bath. Cora was very responsive and friendly whenever we had questions. We were very happy! We rented towels as they are not provided, so be sure to do the same —or pack towels. Would be great to have those included —one less thing to think about. Overall, we had a wonderful time! Sue’s house was perfect for our family of 10! A 5 minute walk to a beautiful beach. A fabulous pool for all of us to enjoy. A lovely decorated home with plenty of bedrooms and new bathrooms. Loved the outdoor showers. Well equipped kitchen for all our meals. And a porch to watch magnificent sunsets at night! Sue was quick to answer all my questions.

A beautiful home for family vacation! The location is ideal: you’re right across from the beach access path and restaurants / shops are within 5-10 minutes each way. We loved staying in to play board games when it was too cold or windy on the beach, too. Fantastic stay at the Sweet Spot!!!
