This was an excellent “get away from it all” experience. I gave a 4/5 in the cleanliness category only because it’s a cabin in the woods. All in all the cabin is clean, but I wouldn’t want to mislead anyone. You will have a few 8 legged party crashers on occasion. There is no AC so if you’re one that can’t do without, this may not be for you. We had a good week of cooler nights so we didn’t mind. Garbage has to be taken to the dump at a minimal cost, but they aren’t open every day. Plan your trips wisely. Charles is great and communication was easy. He does everything he can to make your stay perfect. The vast amount of activities that he provides is amazing. My favorite was paddling in the canoe and the hikes. Cell service is touch and go but who cares? We traveled with two teenagers that now know what “unplugged” and appreciation for the outdoors really means. They swam, boated and fished the entire time. Would highly recommend checking it out for yourself.

James and Hannah were great through out. Very responsive, accommodating. We wanted to watch a game and the personally made sure the TVs are set up with the apps we needed, before we arrived, allowed us some extra time as well as much as they could. Our group really enjoyed the stay, lots of beds for large groups to sleep, and games, multiple leavings areas to hang out.

Place was excellent. Winter wonderland with everything a person needed for an outdoors, lake placid visit. Peter was very attentive, helpful, & informative. I look forward to returning. Great place and great job hosting. Thank you. 🙏

We have celebrated the last two Thanksgivings here and couldn't ask for a more ideal setting or a more dedicated host. This impeccably furnished home nestled between the mountains and the town accommodated our group of 11 family members perfectly. Any questions or issues we had were quickly addressed by Andrea, whose helpful recommendations for the area and thoughtful little touches throughout the home made our stay truly special. Looking forward to returning!

Awesome spot, friendly people, right across from the mountain

The Barkeater is one of the loveliest, coziest, most comfortable B&Bs we have ever experienced. Coming through the front door wreathed in blooming clematis, to freshly baked cookies waiting just inside, was a magical welcome to a magical place. We are already planning our return trip, and have encouraged our friends and family (repeatedly) to plan their stays for this fall before the inn is all booked! Meghan and Tyler (and Dude!) are the consummate hosts. We looked forward to their home cooked breakfasts every morning with great anticipation—and the bacon may have been the best we have ever eaten. We loved the abundance of produce from the Barkeater’s garden, as well as many local products and Meghan’s homemade maple syrup. The accommodations were comfortable, clean, and unfussy but luxurious. We slept like a cloud in the comfortable bed, and enjoyed looking at the mountain views through almost any window of our room. We also enjoyed hanging out on the screened porch and the cozy fireplace sitting room, and chatting with other guests each morning during breakfast. The whole vibe of the Barkeater is welcoming and relaxed, and we didn’t want to leave. The location is great for getting out into the High Peaks, or exploring Keene, Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and beyond. Added bonus for hikers: there are many trailheads within a short driving distance, making the race to the trailhead in the mornings much less stressful. We highly recommend the Barkeater and can’t wait to come back!

Picture perfect stay! The cabin is “as-advertised” base on the photos and description. The location is quiet and serene. Majorie was super kind and helpful. She was available for our needs all time throughout the day. Highly recommend taking a canoe out on the lake and going for a swim across from the property. An easy 15 min paddle across will take you to some nice rock outcroppings with crystal clear water for a nice evening dip. Town is a short 10 min right for one night out for a good meal. Def recommend staying on this property!

Ted was the perfect host, being present, available, and responsive - I felt sure that IF we needed anything he would have been there to help out. The cabin is perfect for a little get-away. The ping pong table in the basement was an added bonus for a little family tournament. The location is peaceful - we didn't walk the grounds, but hope to be back to do so another time - and close to the town/shops/ski hill/etc. So much to do in the area! Thanks Ted!

Michael’s place was perfect for our group of 8. The common space was comfortable and well-furnished. The cold temps did not allow us to enjoy the porch but in the warm weather it must be sublime! We made full use of the well-appointed kitchen. The little butler’s pantry was a great place to store non-perishable items so the kitchen counters remained clear. Each room had either an en suite bathroom or one right next door. Everyone loved the water pressure. We felt like we were away from it all but very accessible to town. Everyone in our group enjoyed their stay.

3 tvs and only 1 could connect to the internet to watch anything (the one in the main bedroom). The other 2 didn't have cable or antennae. I know TV isn't a priority for some but that's my relaxation. The dining/living room is like 2 feet too small, which made the hosts put in a home made bar table and stools. Nice pieces but everything wobbled and was either loose or just not stable, I knocked over a few drinks bumping into the sides. Kitchen ok stocked but ask before coming if they have certain things, we didn't have a can opener and only a few options for pots (plenty of cookie sheets). The hot tub was a great addition, especially in the cold weather after being sore from skiing. We weren't provided with instructions how to work it so the first night took extra long to heat up while we played around and then downloaded the manual. Seemed more expensive than it should have been compared to other placed that offered hot tubs. Best bit was closeness to Whiteface, can't beat that.

If your planning on doing any group activity in the high peaks area, this is the spot to stay. Located right off the main trail head to Algonquin and Marcy peaks. Place was cozy, clean, and much larger than I originally expected. Great experience all around.

This was my second year booking this property and I was very happy with my stay. Host is easy to reach with questions, and the house is warm and comfortable. Thanks again, see you next year

Fantastic spot! Meticulously maintained cabin that has everything you need. We were two families with kids and it worked out nicely. ‘Went in the winter, would be happy to come back again in the winter or in the summer or any season, it would be lovely any time of year!

This is an absolute gem among the woods and water. Peaceful is an understatement and serene doesn't quite do it justice. It's a place to step back, slow down and unplug from all your cares, worries and realities. You'll get the basic necessities and the time to unwind and relax. This is a well placed, well thought of and we'll out of the way home away from home. But in it's tranquility you'll not be far from the everyday needs of everyday life as town is a quick drive over the mountain. I highly recommend the Cochran cabins for a peaceful escape from your everyday life.

The host is wonderful and warm. The cabin does offer true feel of Adirondack vintage cabin that has added a kitchen and bathroom. I would go back again.

Our stay at this cabin was nothing short of magical! Meghan was an incredible host—she responded quickly and was so helpful with all of our questions before the trip. The cabin itself was stunning and perfectly located for easy drives to places like Lake Placid. Pictures do not do it justice. The property was breathtaking, with trails leading to creeks and ponds right on site. It felt like we had our own little nature escape. One of the loveliest touches was the handmade shampoos, conditioners, and bath gel—they smelled amazing and added such a personal feel to the experience. As a family of five from Miami, seeing snowfall was such a treat! The views were absolutely unbelievable, and even with the snow, the roads were always cleared, making travel stress-free. The playroom downstairs was a hit with our family—pool, TV, and a cozy space to gather and unwind. Plus, the beds were incredibly comfortable, ensuring we all got a great night's sleep. This place is an easy 100/10.

Perfect spot to enjoy everything the area had to offer. Walking distance to restaurants & beautiful mountain and lake views. Hosts had great recommendations for local spots!
