We were looking for a quiet place to stay, where we could feel connected to nature. Alex's space went above and beyond our expectations!! It is a truly magical place, with the river and waterfalls flowing just next to the house! Alex has set up a couple of cozy spots to sit down and enjoy the surroundings and we absolutely made the most of it! The house is very comfortable, with a nice spacious living room with a comfy extendable sofa, a lovely bedroom with a beautiful river view, a very clean luminous bathroom, and a complete kitchen! Last but not least, Alex was the kindest, most welcoming host <3 <3 Very helpful with anything we needed and a very pleasant company at the times we had the chance to chat. We had the best time and have already decided we'll be coming back in the summer, hopefully for more than just a weekend getaway!

Rita's place is just amazing. The renovated barn combined with modern architecture, huge windows and beautiful garden is very extraordinary. Is is located very peacefully so be ready to navigate a few narrow streets to get there but absolutely worth it. Rita was waiting for us and explained everything there was to know about the house, and she arranged for daily deliveries of excellent sandwiches each morning. She was also very flexible with check-in and check-out, I can highly recommend this place!

What an absolute gem this house is. Tucked into the beautiful forest near the banks of the Douro. Marisa met us on arrival and was so welcoming and helpful. The house was spotless and very well equipped. Completely private, we spent some wonderful evenings in the hot tub or just sitting on the veranda soaking up the peace and quiet of this lovely place.

Fantastic house for a family vacation. Great location within easy driving distance of lots of great things to do and places to visit. We would love to visit again during warmer weather to enjoy the beautiful pool, the BBQ and the great outdoor space.

Where do I even start?! Staying at Maria's Casa do Rio felt like a magical home away from home. Maria and her sweet dogs gave us a warm welcome when we arrived and gave us a beautiful tour of the property with an overview of its history that you should not miss. She was very accommodating to our check-in time and sensitive to our plans during our stay, which were not many. Since we didn't have much planned for our spur-of-the-moment visit, we were delighted when Maria gave us many suggestions of activities on our own as well as ones with her such as a tour around the area, canoeing, hiking, yoga class, massage, cooking together and so much more. The charm and kind embrace by Maria was otherworldly and an experience in itself that we won't ever forget. If you have any reservations on booking your stay here, you shouldn't because you will not regret a single second at Casa do Rio. Every moment during our stay here is one we will treasure, and we'll be back to visit Maria and her Casa.

Espaço excelente e muito calmo. Espaço com imensas atividades e distrações saudáveis. O lago com as rãs e os peixes também fica muito bem no cenário calmo da casa. Muitas comodidades na habitação e salamandra ótima para dar calor e bom ambiente.

Wow!! Stunning, stunning accommodation! Excellent and responsive communication from the hosts. We appreciated the early checkin. The welcome honey and other drinks received were very tasty. The house was easy to find with Rafael’s instructions and checkin was seamless. Everything was spotless with all needed amenities. It was fantastic to have BBQ’s with the river back drop or just to sit and enjoy the awesome environment. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home. Definitely recommended, without any hesitation.
