Our family of 5 enjoyed our stay at the Whale House! The set up is a little different because the upstairs and downstairs are separate but it was fine since we have older kids. The bedrooms and living room/kitchen area were all spacious. The outdoor areas were the best- we loved being able to walk across the street and sit by the ocean. We liked eating breakfast on the deck and the outdoor shower was a unique feature. It was a little more than we usually spend on a stay but overall was worth it for the experience.

This was our second stay here. We stayed four years ago when we got married on the Big Island and came back again for our anniversary. We love this place! It is so comfortable, beautiful, and relaxing. Hopefully we’ll be back again someday.

The space is huge and surrounded by landscape that offers complete privacy. The frogs sing you to sleep. It’s 5-10 minutes from town, but 3 minutes from the nearest, spectacular waterfall. It’s a great place to stay for a couple with maybe one other person or two small kids.

Lucky to grab this location for a few days. Accommodations were great for three parties of folks. Especially great one couple could bring their dog. Unfortunately, we missed the volcano eruptions, which started the day we checked out for home. They seemed to have everything you might need and super cozy, including the reclining couch sections were comfortable enough to sleep in!!

The house was in a good location for our plan. We were close to town for restaurants & grocery stores. Me were up for a quiet vacation and certainly were able to avoid the crowds. It is situated near Hilo & Kīlauea volcano, which were our primary focus. We enjoyed ourselves immensely.

We had a wonderful but short stay at John’s place. His property was beautiful, he was responsive and very helpful. We followed his recommendations and we had a great time. Would definitely book with John again!

This was a great base for visiting Volcanoes NP, just an easy short drive to the park entrance which was exactly what we were looking for. The living space was bright and spacious and made our group of 6 feel right at home with ample space to spread out. We were surprised at the large swings in temperature even within the house so be prepared to dress warmly in the late evening and early mornings but the house also had plenty of extra blankets and heaters to help.

What a beautiful space! Everything was perfect and clean and my friends and I had everything that we needed! It’s also a quick 2 min walk to restaurants and stores but enough out of the way that you do not feel like you are in ‘town.’ I always love spending time in Hilo - it’s a great town for so much and this was the perfect place to stay at while there! On a side note for other guests - there are 83 whales in this place - we couldn’t resist counting! It’s so adorable. Mahalo

Such a nice little place! Excellent view of the ocean and the lanai was a fantastic place to sit and enjoy the morning. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. Kitchen had everything you needed to cook too! The place is full of thoughtful touches and we wanted for nothing-Robynne had thoughtfully provided everything we might need during our stay and she was so approachable and friendly. Highly recommend if you’re planning to spend a few days in the area. It is a bit of a trek into Hilo, but a lovely spot regardless!

The unit was exactly as described and photographed. It was clean, tidy, and the heated blanket and space heater were very appreciated. The unit was easy to find, with a smooth check-in process; having a designated parking spot was also great. It was the perfect base camp for us to go to the Volcano National Park.

We only stayed one night but would have loved to stay longer. Christopher’s place was very clean, with a very comfortable bed, peaceful and quiet surroundings, nice location. Hosts were always helpful and responded very quickly in all correspondence.

Wow! Rhonda's place is a true gem! Such a peaceful place, it is literally like a retreat. Everything was spot on - from impeccable communication from the host, to cleanliness, amenities, details that absolutely show you how much Rhonda cares about your experience. She even wrote a private note on the board on the wall, welcoming my wife and me. Oh and did I mention lanai? Morning coffee on the lanai before exploring the island was priceless! My only regret is that we didn't spend more time on Big Island at Rhonda's place! Highly recommended!

Everything works, kitchen facilities good, it’s little over an hour to the Volcano National Park, you get a little concerned driving in because of the number of abandoned cars in the neighborhood, but the actual location is good. Well worth the price and we enjoyed our stay.

i will remember my Hilo experience forever because of your house! It’s like living in heaven! Love the birds singing! (I never heard bird sounds like this, it has echoes! Want to know the name of the bird;). The modeling of the living area is impressive! Finally want to give extra star to the hot tub! It’s amazing to enjoy it especially when it’s raining! I’ll def come back!!

I stayed at their Pua Suite, which is located on the 2nd level, and the views looking out on their gorgeous landscape was amazing. On a clear day you can see Mauna Kea and every morning I was greeted by a beautiful rainbow outside the living room window. The unit was peaceful, relaxing and again, the views were stunning. The hosts were very friendly, responsive and had very clear instructions on how to get to their place. An added bonus: their front gate makes you feel like your entering your own estate.

Great place, literally paces from a BEAUTIFUL lagoon and beach filled with turtles and fish. Nice quiet road dotted with 4 or 5 beaches/parks, and about a 3 mile drive to the shops/grocery stores to keep the kitchen stocked. Also had a French press so we could enjoy our fresh Kona coffee every day.

I was there with my boyfriend for the week. The location was great! Within walking distance g distance to great restaurants and the best farmers market I’ve ever been to. The views are absolutely stunning. Watching the sunrise in the morning was so beautiful. We felt right at home. I would definitely stay there again! Thank you so much Carla and Joe! It was a little slice of heaven there.

My fiancé and I stayed here for two nights and absolutely loved it. The water view was outstanding — we found ourselves just sitting and soaking it all in. The location is perfect, close to everything in Hilo, yet peaceful and relaxing. The space had everything we needed in one place, making our stay super convenient and comfortable. Honestly, I wish we had found this gem sooner — it’s hands down the best place we’ve stayed at in Hilo. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again!

Super nice place to spend a couple nights while exploring Hilo/Waterfalls/Volcanoes! It’s a bit tough to find but Maggie’s instructions were proactive in letting you know how to get to the right parking lot (make sure to not rely on GPS alone). The public lagoon park is a short walk away and was absolutely gorgeous - some of the most impressive trees you’ll ever see, neat wavy footbridges, and some humbling memorials and statues. The unit itself was nice and comfortable, and overlooks an adorable small creek stocked with koi and a waterfall that lulls you to sleep each night. All different kinds of birds to observe out on the spacious lanai. The pool was large and the common areas were clean and landscaped, despite the buildings themselves being a bit aged. Bar across the parking lot is open late, but other nearby food options close early. Phenomenal location and unit overall for a cheap couple’s getaway on east side Big Island. Recommend!

This was a great place to stay. Great location, good price, private. Elia was very nice and even reached out to make sure I was doing okay during a storm.

Was a very nice stay. I actually loved the chickens, they visited me on my last day when I left. It was so peaceful. Had everything I needed, and felt safe the whole time. Thanks for the hospitality!

Lovely room with luxurious bedding. The kitchenette with full-sized refrigerator was wonderful.

Great location to stay around Hilo. Many walkable restaurants and is a short walk from a beautiful pond. Lots of beaches short drive away. Amenities listed there was a safe on site but if there was I couldn’t find it (we were hoping there was one to leave our passports/money safe). Place could use a few touch ups and updates but overall nice stay. Have to download an app to pay to wash clothes (would have been nice to use cash as we now have money extra on an app we will never use again as you can’t choose how much to add it’s set increments)
