We spent 5 nights here at the end of March and start of April 2025. We were really fortunate with the weather and took full advantage of the wonderful location: scaling Slight Side and Scafell on one day, riding to Coniston via the bridleway on another and 'bagging' most of the Coniston fells on another day via Wrynose Pass. We ate in on a couple of nights and also went to the Wainwright's for some pub grub, as well as Stoves for their evening menu. Simon and Belinda's place is very well situated in Great Langdale for all kinds of walks and rides, food and decent pints. The house itself is a lovely place to return to in the evening with easy parking outside for our van and once inside, everything is spotless, well equipped and cosy. We really appreciated all the helpful information on bike routes and walking routes and spent the late evenings by the fire pouring over the Wainwright books planning the next day's adventures. 100% recommended.

Booked this cottage as a getaway to propose to my partner. She said yes, which was great, and the cottage is fantastic. The photos really don't do it justice, the bathroom is massive, bed really comfy and the hot tub is incredible and feels really private (pack flip flops for getting to and from the hottub). The gate to the river is lovely but it's steep so make sure you've got some hiking boots with you. If not, just leave via the front door and turn left to get to the same place. 20 minute drive to Carlisle and about 10 mins to Gretna. Plenty to see and do but you will need to drive, couldn't find a taxi service that was open. Had a really relaxing time here and can't recommend it enough. ps. avoid the cows in the field next to the river walk (the public footpath going to st Michael's well) - they will chase you.

The location was amazing and the views were spectacular. This home was exactly what it said on the tin. We were all blown away by it and had beautiful weather to make the most of the outdoor area. The only thing we did notice was that there wasn’t enough wine glasses & champagne flutes. Not ideal when there was 8 women so we had to use half pint glasses. We could have also done with more dishwasher tablets to last the stay. Apart from that it was perfect. Thank you.

Fantastic location. However it is on a main road. I did know that in advance and wasn’t too noisy anyways. The cottage is lovely and spacious but the windows do need a bit of love. They will need replacing soon as they don’t close well. The hot tub was super and well needed after a day out on the bike or out hiking. Really enjoyed the short break and the sun shone for all the days I was here.

We had a lovely stay at Claire’s property. I can’t recommend it enough! From the moment we arrived, I was impressed by the cleanliness and comfort of the space. The property was beautifully maintained, with all the amenities you could possibly need for a relaxing stay. The hot tub was always warm surrounded by beautiful scenery. We will definitely be returning.

Our stay at The Stables was heaven. Paul welcomed us and showed us around and had even set up the hot tub for us arriving. The house was immaculate with everything you could possibly need and beautifully decorated too. We loved the Bluetooth mirror in the bathroom. The garden was beautiful and so peaceful and our two dogs loved it, it was completely secure for them which meant we could relax. The view from the garden and the location were wonderful, it was just what we needed. We didn’t want to leave and would love to come back sometime soon. Thank you for being wonderful hosts and for our cheeseboard and Prosecco it was such a thoughtful touch.

Beautiful home, very spacious and plenty of amenities. felt right at home! perfect for toddlers too. Ian was great, very helpful and easily contactable.

We had an absolutely lovely time staying at High Swinside. Diana was an amazing host and went out of her way to make us all feel comfortable. I would highly recommend any of her cottages.

Great cottage, beautifully decorated in a really sweet village

what a gem! photos don't do it justice. the place was so homley and well presented. such charm. the area was lovely too, friendly neighbours and great community on the street. brilliant base for our family's Lake district adventure. excited to stay again!

wardhall cottages is a perfect peaceful retreat. Great fire, laid and ready to light on arrival. Huge bath beautiful countryside with easy walks to a woodland with the dogs. Near to Cockermouth for shops and cafes and close to Allonby for beautiful beach walks and sunsets.

Windermere Cottage was a perfect spot for exploring the lakes. Plenty of space for 5 adults and a dog with 3 bedrooms all en-suite. A 2 minute walk into Windermere and lots of food and cafe options along with a Co-op, Boots and WHSmiths along with lots of lovely local shops and cafes. The cottage was easy to find, pristine and great facilities. Alison was timely in communication and offered some friendly advice on places to eat as well as providing a lovely bottle of wine and chocolate biscuits on our arrival. Thank you for a lovely stay. Would highly recommend.

A lovely cottage in a beautiful area. The enclosed garden was perfect for our dog and there were places to walk him too from the village. Location is quiet, peaceful and private.

Loved Helen’s beautiful little cottage. We only stayed for 1 night but wish we could have stayed for longer. As soon as we arrived, Helen came to greet us and made us feel at home. Recommended a great pub a short mile away where we enjoyed a lovely dinner.

I had a great stay at the cottage. It's very cosy and comfortable. Perfect location for my stay in the area. Loved the little patio out the back, a lovely sun-trap . Anna was a very responsive host and I would definitely stay again if I am in the area.

Beautiful little cottage, spotlessly clean with everything we needed. The surrounding area was so peaceful with stunning views. The garden was fabulous , a place where we could relax after lots of walking and the perfect place for our puppy to explore.The location was excellent for visiting the lakes. Our hosts were so friendly and helpful ,made us feel extremely welcome . Would definitely stay here again!!

A wonderful place to stay in the heart of beautiful scenery. Very well equipped and tastefully modernised. Walking distance to the pub was handy. It was lovely to sit out in the garden. Thank you for letting us stay.

We had an exceptional stay at Manesty ! The location in was absolutely stunning, surrounded by beautiful scenery that made the visit truly special. The area was calm and peaceful, providing the perfect retreat from daily life. The host's instructions were clear, making the check-in process seamless. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Lake District in a serene and relaxing

This is a great place. We could’ve done with longer - struck gold with the weather so didn’t use the leisure facilities as much as we might have. Really well placed for visiting Keswick and Penrith. Whinlatter Forest took us about 30 mins to get to - great for walks, bikes, cafe.

We had an amazing stay here, even if it was only for one night it was lovely. There was a communal garden to the back which had a lovely stream at the bottom, we took our dog with us who loved the surrounding areas, perfect for walking. Greg left great instructions on the surrounding area and it is worth buying essentials in beforehand as there is no local shop for a good few miles. We drove out and got an amazing take out pizza from one of the pubs in the centre. Board games were available there and the bed was super comfy! All in all an amazing stay 🤍

Lovely little cottage. Great location , easy walk into town centre and the bonus of a parking space. Cottage itself was clean and well equipped for the two of us. Friendly host with good communication.

We had a great week. The hosts had made it very welcoming and christmassy (including tree in lounge). It's a beautiful location and in better weather would be a great base for the lakes/dales. It has a well stocked kitchen and once we'd worked out the log burner/heating was easy to keep warm. We were warned about the driveway which at points is like off-roading, but we did manage to navigate it without 4x4's. If you are up for a secluded location, or a base for hiking, or just somewhere to relax then I would recommend.

If I could rate this 10 stars I would have. Great location, cosy but just right fit for our family of 5, great amenities and amazing decor (even a male philistine like myself can appreciate it so it must be good). Can’t thank Matthew and Liz enough for making our stay so enjoyable. They even provided spectacular weather at no extra charge 😬. Will hope to come again soon!

We really enjoyed the accommodation and had a good time. Allonby is small and quiet, and it was good that we'd stocked up on food etc before we got there. The views across the Firth are lovely, but we found the landscape apart from that less exciting. (It would be great for cyclists though!)That said, as a quiet get-away, it fitted the bill very nicely.
