This was a perfect short stay location just 30 minutes drive from Edinburgh. Phil was a welcoming host. The excellent accommodation is located in a delightful, quiet location in view of Borthwick Castle. We took advantage of our hosts’ recommendations to try some of the local walks and there were many friendly farm animals to greet us.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Helen and Jamie's home! We especially appreciated how well it accommodates a large group like ours (of 16)! Our youngest brother was getting his master's degree at the University of Edinburgh, so my parents, my sister's family and my family decided to come and join him for the holidays. Every family had their own "wing" of the house, with our parents in the middle and then each sister's families down a different hallway, with each family also having their own bathroom. We even had enough room for our brother and his fiancé to come and stay in the house with us (on the third floor)! It was fantastic. The beds were divine, and the heated bathroom floor was one of my favorite treats. Jamie and Helen were very kind and helpful, making suggestions for restaurants in the area. We were close enough to the city of Edinburgh that we easily went into town every day, but far enough out that it felt relaxing and away from the hustle and bustle if we wanted to be.

The East Wing of Islay House was very spacious and comfy. It was clean and tidy and did not lack any amenities. Sandra provided firewood for the fireplace and plenty of local information. The village of Pencaitland is quiet an peaceful with a shop/petrol station within walking distance and lots of short walks. There were lots of longer walks within 12-30 mins, including those in Edinburgh. Even better if: queen or king bed instead of double bed, description and external photos more accurately reflect that the accommodation is part of a larger house, and it is made clear whether or not both sets of gates can be shut to provide a full secured outside space for dogs. Overall we were very happy with our stay and would recommend :).

We stayed in Scott's place at the end of October and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was very clean and was well equipped. The location is a little remote and while the bus is a short walk away and taxis are available, a car is really needed. The upside of this is that there are some lovely walks around. Penicuik is a 40 min walk away. I would definitely recommend Scott's house.

A really lovely and well-kept accommodation, close to Edinburgh but set in a beautiful country estate. The cottage itself is spacious, cosy and very well equipped. If you have dogs and/or small children it’s ideal, as you can walk from the doorstep without dealing with any busy roads. There’s an excellent fenced off area which keeps your dogs penned in. If you’re a cook, the equipment is very good and plenty of utensils. Children’s bib and plate also available, toys in the sitting room. Heating is very efficient and we were provided firewood which was nice. Definitely recommend for families for cosy holidays and outdoors activities and also good proximity to Edinburgh- the local towns also have trains to the city.

Christine’s place was a real gem. The serene and pastoral setting was exactly what we needed. While convenient to all of the activities and amenities of Edinburgh, the farmstead provided a lovely respite. Don’t miss the Pentland Hill trails just steps from the home. This home was perfect for our family getaway.

Perfect place to stay for a few days on a budget. About 10min walk from bus stops that led to the city, took about an hour to get into the city from here. Owners always got back with us quickly and were so kind. I reccommend staying here if you want more of a cozy stay away from the city!

The apartment is really bright and spacious and tastefully decorated. The living area and kitchen are perfect. The apartment has everything you need including a washing machine and dryer. Audrey explained everything very clearly to us when we arrived to drop off our luggage (the owners facilitated an early drop off before 4pm). In terms of improvements, the water boiler is quite noisy so if someone used the bathroom late, it could wake other guests. We would have appreciated shampoo in the bathroom - some of our party flew with hand luggage only with a small liquids allowance. We enjoyed our stay and it was convenient for the EICC, a 10-15 minute walk. The welcome breakfast pack was a nice touch. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, including Napoli-themed Pizzeria 1926 with delicious pizzas!

A beautiful, warm and delightful holiday home. Few mins walk to the beach and on a lovely holiday park with great facilities for children and dogs. Amazingly stocked kitchen equipment and such comfy beds and bedding. Would highly recommend and look forward to coming back!

We just felt right at home and comfortable in Mary's van....location was quiet and easily accessible...lovely little touches throughout...willl be back !!

We loved our stay in Priscilla, the caravan was in a lovely location at the back of the park overlooking the golf course. Dianne was very responsive and accommodating.

Caravan very clean exactly as described. Easy to find at the top end of the park nice and quiet location. Lucy was very welcoming and checked that everything was ok.

Ideal for short family break to visit friends and explore the area

It was a very clean place, just as described. Luka was very communicative and provided everything we needed. He made the place available to check in earlier if we needed to. It was a peaceful area and place, also very tastefully decorated. I enjoyed the coffee from the coffee machine; this was a really nice surprise.

andrew was a very courteous and polite host, The place had a lovely home feel vibe with lots of space and was also very clean too. It was my first time in edinburgh and i thoroughly enjoyed it and my stay at Andrews! highly recommend this place and would happily stay here again if i come back :)

The accommodation looked amazing and perfect for our needs but, unfortunately, into the last minute due to illness, we had to let her down. We're very sorry and completely understand why she's so unhappy.

Perfect stay for a few days, clean, tidy and easy to access. Surrounding footpaths were very nice to stroll and could see the river from the window. Would recommend.

This house was exactly as advertised. Spacious and beautiful. Perfect for two families. Check in was easy and Jacki was very responsive.

Was the perfect location and cottage, the area was nice and quiet but close to everything we needed. Ab and his team made lots of effort to make us feel at home. we would love to come back again. thank you for making our time at home special. Regards Leanne, Gary and the boys!!
