To see the workings of a multi-generational family farm, stay in a 170 year old house with beautiful high-quality furniture and fittings, and engage with a kind and gentle-natured farmer and his wife…was wonderful. A gentle desert rain arrived as we got there and set the tone for one of the most restful holidays we have ever had. The farmer’s 2 dogs popped in every now and again and made themselves part of the family. Richard and Anika were accommodating and quick to sort out anything we asked for. The house was spotlessly clean and filled with history from the 1800s. There was a sense of warmth with the people living / working on the farm as well. The drive to Nieu Bethesda was around 15min going up a gorgeous gentle pass which presented something new every time we travelled. The highlight of the stay was walking up the hill behind the house and sitting on the bench overlooking the farm, valley, and mountains at sunset. Thank you Richard and Anika (our kids say hi).

After a long road on our way to Knysna, this was a wonderful stopover. It is a bit far off the main road and therefore it will be better to stay there for another day. It is rest for the soul. Diane is a superb host. This farm house experience will stay in our memories for a long time. We travel to and from Knysna often, and we will definitely be visiting again. Thanks for a lovely place to stay.

Jaco is an excellent host and the cottage the perfect half way stop between Johannesburg and Cape coast. You are surrounded by great views of the mountains and sheep grazing in the lush fields surrounding the cottage. I would really recommend this to anyone for an overnight stop or even a couple of days of relaxation in the countryside.

It's difficult to overstate how incredible this place is. The Rest Farm is an incredible oasis in the Karoo, and Shepherd's Cottage is a beautiful old farmhouse, comfortable, private, and peaceful with all the amenities - it would be easy to stay here a week or even a month. The sunsets, the walks, the birds, the river nearby. Paula and Ian's hospitality was second to none - their house is right nearby and they provided milk and bread from their farm, tea, and wonderful conversation. And a dip in the water reservoir behind their house. This place is an absolute treasure and we're hoping to come back as soon as we can.

Very friendly and great host to have when staying over at places. Will definitely stay here when passing by to CPT.

There were only 3 of us but the cottage caters for 6. The area is stunning, it had snowed and Hester kept me informed as to the state of the roads due to the snow. The cottage was cosy, had a wood fire and electric blankets so perfect.

Helena cottage is situated just off the highway...yet you still arrive at a peaceful oasis. Restaurants & shops are 25 kms away in Colesberg so take your own. Enjoy the freshly cut lawn and a Braai. Well equipped kitchen. Take your own ground coffee as they do have a French press. Huge fridge for any Karoo lamb you may have bought en route. The bathroom is in the Main bedroom..so all guests will need to remain quiet making their loo visits. You'll meet an amazing Cat ! He's strong. but obedient ..after many cuddles he left when I asked at bedtime. So he won't come in unless invited. I felt safe. Great lighting. A very lovely stop over indeed. The Stars at night!! The property is well located with everything you need! Clean and exactly as the photos! The host was responsive and gave clear instructions! I can recommend this property should you wish to experience Nieu Bethesda! Thank you Jaco! We will definitely stay with you again
