HOME away from HOME (green, ample and lush)

Martina's place is in the foothills of Yeka, a sub-city in the northeastern portion of Addis. It is a two-minute walk from Menelik II hospital and within walking distance of a relatively expensive Italian restaurant and a nice coffee shop/bakery (Koba Patisserie). The Airbnb/house itself is in a compound shared with a local family with two (very quiet) children. It has plenty of green and grassy areas, which is a huge privilege in Addis. Two cats and three friendly dogs share the space and are very protective of all the residents (and visitors!). The place was clean, had everything I needed (including snacks/breakfast from Martina), and entirely as advertised. I would recommend relying on mobile hotspot for internet, although even that can be spotty.

This was a wonderful stay - I was at Hailu's place for two weeks while doing work nearby, and it was very comfortable and convenient, with easy access to supermarkets and transportation. And, the staff are so kind and welcoming!

Everything was okay and more than what i could expect from Hailu Guest House. I really enjoyed my stay for 1 week. The maid is so nice and helpful. Neighborhood is perfect : Bakery, restaurant, local shop and hairdresser next to the Guest house. Perfect to manage your breakfast and lunch. 5 min walk from a shoa supermarket, that will help you to get your Ride (uber local taxi) easily and your groceries. Guest house furnitures are very nice, specially the living room and the 1st floor kitchen. As a cooking chef, I was so happy to enjoy an ethiopian coffee and fresh smoothies every morning thanks to the blender. No water for 1 day but it was fixed the day after. I would definitely recommend this guest house. And i may come back again next time i'm travelling in Ethiopia. Take care Hailu and his wonderful staff !

Very nice place with nice people on the staff. Everything is top quality, spacious, quiet, and a good group of international travelers sharing the building. It is about a $4 taxi ride to the center, but there is a nearby train that is cheap and convenient.

I travelled to Addis in late January of 2016, from Los Angeles, California. I was in Addis to attend the US-Africa Business Summit being held at the United Nations Conference Center several miles from the property. I really didn't want to stay in a traditional hotel property bc I wanted to experience Ethiopians from the ground up, neighborhood and all. I am glad I located this property, which is located in a quite, gated, pleasant, and safe neighborhood. If you haven't been to Addis lately, you'd be pleasantly surprised to learn that the city has a modern and new light rail. I believe this is the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa. The rail line is a walking distance from the property and I was glad the rail line ran by the UN bc you save a ton of money using the rail service (taxi fares in Addis can be unreasonable) if you don't mind being crammed inside the train. I wonder what the people used or how they got around before the trains started running. It's a great infrastructural addition to a lovely and burgeoning city. I particularly loved having Meti, the woman taking care of he property, around to make the stay quite comfortable. Not only is she a great cook, she'll even spoil you by doing your laundry (without being asked!). Although we couldn't communicate (she speaks primarily Ahmaric and Arabic) it all added to the entire excitement of the trip bc we were forced to "talk" to one another with various gestures. She exudes what Ethiopians are known for: gentleness, warmth, and grace. My stay in Addis was comfortable overall and I look forward to returning to Addis on a more slow-paced and relaxed schedule; and I would most likely stay at Mola's property.
