Was a really great spot to get away and be in the mountains! The house has a great layout and an awesome screened porch and deck overlooking the mountains. Extremely relaxing and quiet spot. We spent a lot of time in the hot tub and enjoyed the fire pit as well. It is definitely private but it isn’t completely secluded. There is a house down the hill about 250 yards away and another house up the hill prob 250 yards away too. We only saw a few cars go up that road during the 2 days we were there so it is definitely still private, quiet, and in nature. But if complete seclusion is what you are needing, there are some other homes in sight. We really loved the home though and would definitely book again. Thanks for the great getaway, Derek!

We loved it. It was perfect for a night away from the kids and Farmville has some good restaurants and a great coffee shop for breakfast within 5-10 minutes driving. We're hoping to go back!

The only part of the stay that didn't get 5 stars was that it wasn't quite as secluded as I'd hoped for. There are a number of homes on the road to the cabin, and a thin line of trees breaks the view. Admittedly unless you're looking for the other houses you don't notice them, so I got past that quickly enough. That said, the cabin was perfect, clean, cozy and everything worked as stated. Having grown up in the country, but living in a city now, I felt the stress melt away as soon as I stepped into the massive yard where my son and I spent a lot of time playing soccer and other sports. My son and wife really enjoyed the hot tub. The location is 15 minutes away from Luray which meant that the stars were amazing for the brief break in the clouds we got, but that it was close enough to get groceries and take out as needed. Plus it's about 20 minutes away from Front Royal so there are places to go and enjoy like Skyline or Luray Caverns. Jackie was a great and responsive host!

Beautiful location. The cottages are a shared space with there being a smaller one behind the rock cottage. Wasn’t really expecting that but they left the next day so we were able to enjoy our stay with some more privacy. Hot tub was fantastic, bathroom spacious, kitchen accommodating. The walk around the meadows seeing all the animals was great. Would recommend.

We absolutely LOVED the cabin and didn't want to leave. It was beautiful, a great mix of rustic and modern. We appreciated the fully stocked kitchen and shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the bathrooms. We enjoyed having the hot tub and the fire pit. The beds were comfy. It was a peaceful and a fantastic trip. We plan to stay again in the future.

we had a great experience. it's very tranquil and a very nice get away. I needed it and had a quiet night enjoying the hot tub, playing board games and just relaxing away from the real world.

Absolutely loved stay at Miguel’s place! The neighborhood offered several delicious food options and the space was immaculate. It was a quick 15 min drive wherever we wanted to visit. This will definitely be on our list for our next trip to DC.

We had a lovely time. The place was clean and comfortable with thoughtful touches like extra pillows. It combined the best of both worlds with shopping and restaurants in easy walking distance but was very quiet and peaceful because it was tucked at the end of the block on a dead end street with no buildings behind it. It was just perfect for us.

We were two families with four children—two young adults heading to college and two spirited middle schoolers—and every one of us, regardless of age, found joy and peace here. From the breathtaking natural surroundings to the simple pleasure of kayaking through calm waters, each moment felt like a gentle reset for the soul. What truly elevated the experience was our host, Shawn. More than just a “super host,” she embodied hospitality in its finest form. Her attention to detail, her care for comfort, and the thoughtful touches throughout the home surpassed even the details of a Hollywood studio setting !

Melinda’s apartment was so homey and inviting. We loved spending time here. It was the perfect place to relax and a great jumping off point for all the sites we wanted to see. The neighborhood was quiet and the space had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again!

We stayed at Katy's for a small family gathering and to see the sights in Richmond. The property was private, peaceful and serene. We enjoyed the trains passing across the canal but others might not. The home is located in a beautiful neighborhood with quick and easy access to many parks, museums and other activities. We had no issues with the house or amenities and Katy promptly and helpfully responded to our questions.

The house was spacious, cozy, and felt like a true home away from home. One of the best surprises was the large collection of jigsaw puzzles — we had so much fun working on them during our stay! A wonderful place to relax and unwind.

Our third annual stay at Lynne’s home for a night on our way to Florida. We feel very at home in this charming, comfortable cottage and it’s a great place for our dog too. Although dogs are welcome, we never smell or see any evidence except the nice dog dishes. Close to 95 but quiet in a nice neighborhood. Awesome backyard for humans too. Wish we were there in warmer weather to really enjoy it.

This was my second stay at the Black Cat Retreat. I highly recommend staying here. The place is great! It’s a wonderful big area with plenty of natural light. Lennice is a wonderful host and a pleasure to talk to! My dog Max and I loved staying here!

A spacious home by the water. We celebrated Thanksgiving at this location and it was very special. The views are beautiful, had a fire right by the water and relaxed by the beach. A perfect getaway with family and friends. It has everything you need, the living room is super comfortable and great to relax with the family. The kitchen was spacious making it easy to cook and entertain the family. We loved the hot tub, playing pool and having family dinner. Overall a fabulous experience!! Great host- great communication. Highly recommend

The location was amazing with the pool and the waterfront. The grandkids loved fishing and swimming. Couple observations: The lawn service came when we were there but only mowed the lawn and did not mow around the pool. No edging or weeding was done in the landscaping Pool service came when we were there and was great Garbage pick up came and pulled all the way down the driveway which was great Bathrooms could use some love. Oven could also use some love I would recommend taking bottle water and ice if you have a large group. We made a few runs to the General Store and Safeway. All in all we would give it 5 stars. Thanks so much.

Greg was a wonderful host. He was proactive and checked in with us a few times to make sure we had a great stay! The apartment was comfortable and had everything we needed! The neighborhood was beautiful and quiet with many restaurants and coffee shops. Just minutes from the tourist attractions in DC. We had a great stay and would highly recommend Greg as a super host!

Our family of four spent two nights at Callie's Cottage. We had a great time enjoying the trails, fishing the pond, and watching the horses. Our kids had a lot of fun playing in the treehouse. The house was cozy, clean and well appointed.

As many have reported this is a true gem!! The view is to die for! We spent one day biking to Luray from Rileyville. A stunning country road ride with farms all around, mountains on either side, no cars on the road! Would not recommend biking on overlook drive due to gravel.

I had a wonderful experience staying here! I loved the location ; serene & quiet! The pool house was so cute and very clean- Everything smelled so nice & the atmosphere was very relaxing! I hope to come back this summer & enjoy the pool. Thank you Rebecca& Tyler :)

We had a great time. Scott was very proactive in letting me know exactly what to do to check in. I had a couple questions and I don’t think it took him more than 10 minutes to get back to me. The condo was exactly what we were looking for. I was very impressed overall and would love to stay there again.

Kelly and Paul are incredible Hosts and beautiful humans! They truly care about their quests go over and above to make sure that you feel at home. Their farm is adorable and we got to know the animals by name (Bernie the dog came and greeted us, JoJo the pig was so special, and cupcake the black sheep who thinks he is a goat cracked us up. The bald eagle flying over was breath-taking and they have nature trails through the woods. Our souls are completely nourished and I would highly recommend this cottage to anybody who needs to escape for a few days. We really enjoyed meeting you Kelly and Paul and hope to return one day.
