There are moments in life when the world rights itself. Having Taiji san as host with his gracious mom is one of those moments. He is a genius chef (he will downplay this) and a gentle soul. We had the greatest meal of our lives (not hyperbole) by a huge margin. That it was completely unexpected in the middle of the beautiful nowhere that Taiji san calls home, imbued divinity to the experience. I will not describe the meal out of respect except to say that it was well thought out, crafted and executed with precision from a rustic kitchen. Each course leaves you wanting more. But still your senses for that yearning will be satisfied and compounded with the next. It builds and escalates till you feel you are in the presence of God-given talent. Taiji san's place is an unexpected gastronomic destination. But because it is so out of the way, you need to stay the night. It is by no means a luxe stay. But his connection to the tradition and history of the place adds to the charm. Bliss.

Victoria, the lodge owner and a Buddhist priest herself, gave us a tour of the temple and the chance to ring the bell. I was also delighted to meet Pickles, the temple cat, who seemed to enjoy the atmosphere as much as the guests!

Beautiful stay! Exactly like the pictures and comfortable. Host was very responsive and friendly and personally showed us everything we needed to know about the house

Had a wonderful stay, Satoko and her family were amazing hosts! They are incredibly helpful and friendly. The dinner was also superb.

Monsieur Nakazono est très gentil et nous a très bien accueilli. Son ryokan est confortable, charmant et avec un cachet intemporel. (Pour l'anecdote, notre ferry pour Yakushima a failli être annulé et monsieur Nakazono nous a chaleureusement proposé de nous héberger s'il n'était pas possible de partir le jour prévu)

My brother and I really enjoyed our stay here. 玄武 was a fantastic host and very responsive to us. It was a unique experience that we will remember for a long time and hope to do again!

It’s a very cosy and unique house tucked in the midst of an interesting town. Everything from the beds and tatami to the fully self contained kitchen is perfect. And the stroll around the house in the morning was extremely therapeutic. Kerry is also easy to communicate with. I would definitely recommend his place without doubt.
